I first started my fitness journey seven years ago when I was looking to lose some weight and build a bit of muscle. It didn't take long for me to develop a strong passion for lifting weights and challenging my body. As my strength and confidence improved, I genuinely wanted to take care of my body and change my habits. That's when the desire to educate myself properly on fitness and health began. I did what a lot of people did at first, watching YouTube videos and researching what I was curious about online. However, I soon realized that there was a lot of contradicting information out there that can get sort of confusing to weed through at times.
Now, at this point in my journey, I had lost the weight that I had originally wanted to and was the smallest I have ever been in my life. I had developed new goals and was working towards building muscle when covid hit and then gyms closed down. This period in my life was quite challenging for me. The gym was an outlet for my mental health and I was going through a lot of difficult things at that time, plus being locked inside wasn't helping. I had tried to stay on track with things at home, but with limited space, equipment and my mental health in the state that it was, I completely fell out of routine and ended up gaining back the weight I had lost.
Fast forward to the end of covid and things opening back up again. I got back into the gym and decided to hire a trainer. My main motivation for this decision was to give myself a little extra push and help with being consistent. I also decided I was done searching through the internet for what was going to work. Little did I know this decision would change the way I looked at fitness forever. Achieving my goals of losing weight or building some muscle were one thing, I had done that previously myself. But, noticing how my body moved and felt was new to me. Learning about muscle imbalances that were potentially causing me minor pains, and then working on correcting it changed my life. I became a lot more in-tune with my body, becoming aware of what proper movement felt life. This sparked a whole new desire to expand my knowledge into completely different areas.
Thus began my pursuit to achieve a Personal Training Certificate. Seeing first hand the way fitness was able to improve my quality of life has influenced my decision to specialize in health coaching and exercise therapy. I want to help people create habits that they can keep up for years to come because they truly enjoy them. I want to help others build functional strength and move with less pain so that they can keep their independence as they age. That's why, after I complete my certifications in corrective exercise, nutrition and strength and conditioning, I plan on also studying for certifications in exercise therapy, health coaching, and lifestyle transformation.
